In a re-run of last year’s Wembley showpiece, Saturday’s FA Cup final pits City against United, with kick-off set for 15:00 (UK).
Should Guardiola’s men come out on top, then we will become the first men’s side to claim back-to-back doubles in English football history.
It would cap off a remarkable season in which we also broke new ground by winning a fourth successive top flight title last Sunday.
And while Guardiola says solely focusing on winning the FA Cup is enough of an incentive for his players, he admits that breaking another record would be a welcome bonus.
“Good, if the history give us the chance to be in front of something not done before, why not try it,” the boss said in his pre-match press conference.
“Maybe it’s an extra motivation for the players. I didn’t speak about this subject specifically to them.
“If we played just for the win the trophy it’s enough. I said before a month ago that not any team has done four in a row because it’s difficult.
HOW TO FOLLOW THE FA CUP FINAL ON THE APP
“A team has not done back to back Premier Leagues and FA Cups because it’s not easy. We are here and we will go to London to perform well.
“It’s again the same routine. Of course, it’s not forgotten the Premier League. For one year, we will defend our crown until the next May or June. We will be champions.
“But at the same time, what’s next? People take a shower and then onto the next. Next is Saturday’s FA Cup final. This is the mindset of what we have to do because the big teams show that.
“We are satisfied, but what’s next? Next challenge - go for it with all we have. We will see what happens.
“I want to be beaten because they were better not because we weren’t who we are. We spoke for many years about this subject.
“Respect opponents. Can’t be different. But focus on our performance and who we are, this is the most important.”
Since joining the Club in 2016, Guardiola has presided over the most successful period in Manchester City’s history, winning 17 trophies over eight seasons at the helm ahead of Saturday’s FA Cup final.
But while the boss admits that silverware is seen as the defining measurement of success for a manager, he insists more should be considered when reflecting at the end of the season.
He said: “In our job you have to win otherwise you are in dangerous position. Whatever club, no matter the trajectory, no matter if it’s new or old, you have to win.
CITY v UNITED: AN FA CUP FINAL FOR THE AGES
“Do a good job and be good with many things otherwise it happens unfortunately.
“The people have to understand you just win once. All the others are failures? I don’t think so honestly. I do not agree with that.
“It doesn’t matter what happens this season, I will not feel a failure if we don’t win the Premier League. I don’t think Arsenal feel that because they performed incredibly.
“Our job is what it is. If you don’t accept that, then focus on another type of business.”
