Pep Guardiola says it remains unclear as to whether Ederson and Gabriel Jesus will be able to play in Saturday’s game against Leicester City.

The Manchester City duo, along with a several other of the Premier League’s South American stars, have been banned by for five days as a result of not travelling to represent Brazil in the September international break.

The decision impacts eight Brazilian players at five English clubs, with Guardiola admitting City face a wait to see if the ban is overturned before we face the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

“Right now, it isn’t clear,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“I don’t know. Hopefully they can play. We will wait until tomorrow, if there is some good news.

“The club didn’t inform me of anything so we are going to wait until tomorrow to see if they can play or not.”

With Zack Steffen ruled out of the trip to Leicester due to a positive COVID-19 test, Ederson’s potential absence would see third choice goalkeeper Scott Carson handed his second start in a City shirt.

And Guardiola admitted the situation was difficult for him to understand when asked if the uncertainty was frustrating as he tries to prepare for a tough game against Brendan Rodgers’ side.

“The problem is I don’t understand the situation,” he added.

“I don’t know what we can do. It is an honour for Manchester City for our players to go and play for their country. That’s no problem at all.

“The problem that is difficult to understand for me is that the Argentina players from the Premier League go to Brazil and aren’t allowed to play. The Brazilian players who should have travelled to play this game would have been completely the same.

“So, they [would have] travel there to not be allowed to play because they have to fit the quarantine there.

“If they do it so they cannot play in Brazil and after they come back they cannot play for 10 days and if they don’t fly to play that game they are suspended for five days because they were here. That makes no sense.

“The Argentina players travel and the police were on the pitch and after they can’t play the game because they don’t follow the protocol.

“After the confederation from Brazil asked FIFA to ban these players because they don’t travel to play with them, but they cannot play there an after they can’t play here. That is crazy.

“We allowed them to play, from Liverpool and United and Arsenal and Chelsea, but they had to travel and they are not allowed because they had to quarantine 10 days in a hotel.

“After they come from Brazil and have to stay 10 days in a hotel. They miss the game this weekend, the Champions League, the next Premier League game. It is difficult to understand.

“That’s why we wait for FIFA.  Hopefully they will make a statement and allow all the Brazilian players to play with their teams.”
