The Norwegian striker picked up a knock during his nation’s friendly victory over Faroe Islands last week and sat out the 3-3 draw with Scotland on Sunday.
However, Guardiola says his No.9 was involved in practice yesterday and will hopefully continue to improve ahead of the 12:30 (UK) kick-off on Saturday.
City v Liverpool | Match preview
“He trained yesterday with some niggles,” he said.
“Today we are in the last training, hopefully he can play a part.”
City will train later this afternoon and Guardiola say he will know more about the other players who missed international fixtures after that.
“We have a few problems like many clubs,” the boss stated.
“We will see in our training session today. We will see.
“At 18:00 (UK) I will know for sure who is available.”
City have won the title in five of the last six seasons, with Liverpool the only team to break that dominance.
Since Guardiola‘s arrival in England in 2016, the two teams have played 14 league matches.
City have won five meetings, Liverpool have won four and the other five have finished as draws.
Guardiola and Klopp’s Premier League rivalry
Having spoken in glowing terms about Liverpool throughout his time in England, our manager was again complimentary about Jurgen Klopp’s side ahead of the latest instalment of the rivalry.
“I think we are all friends,” he said.
“We know each other quite well. Of course, the time goes forward Jurgen has been eight years at Liverpool and of course it’s not the same players since the start. He has rebuilt the team.
“Trent Alexander-Arnold can play inside and outside. But the idea is quite similar and always been our best rivals some seasons done well with injuries they have. Top club and team. Looking forward to it.”
