Pep Guardiola has challenged his side to continue raising their level.

City are on a nine-game winning streak in the Premier League, a run of form which has seen us move three points clear at the top of the table.

Indeed, those nine league victories are part of a 13-game winning run in all competitions, with City still in contention for four trophies this term.

It’s been a wonderful sequence of performances – but on the eve of our game at Anfield against current champions Liverpool, Guardiola says his side cannot stand still.

“I don’t care about whether the opponents are worried,” he said.

“I am pretty sure they are not because every manager and every club when they play against a team always they believe they can beat them.

“It is about maintaining and improving. To improve our game and of course, to maintain our results. That is what I want from my team.

“If we make a bad a game or the opponent is better, we will congratulate them - like we have since I’ve been in charge - and think of the next one, to improve on the previous one and try to win the next one. This is the only way.

“At the end we are going to analyse the season. What’s good, what’s bad, what we can improve. This is the only way.

“The nine victories in a row is the past.

“The day after tomorrow we have to do a good game to beat them. Not because we have won nine games.

“They are the champions and I know Liverpool will be there. I don’t have any doubts.

“We have to prepare, be ready and be aggressive, with courage to win the game.”

City go into the game seven points clear of fourth-placed Liverpool and three ahead of Manchester United in second having played a game less than both.

It’s a strong position, with many suggesting a draw at Anfield would represent a good result for City.

But Guardiola rejected any notion of playing for a point, insisting he only knows one way to approach games: to go for the win.

“Never, ever in my career as a manager have I prepared a game to draw,” he said.

“Never. I try to do the game to create the problems for our opponents.

“Saying that, sometimes it is not possible - the opponents can be better.

“In the last 10-15 minutes if it is impossible to score a goal, it is better than losing. A draw is a good point. In advance, no way.

“Try to win the game, that is what we are going to do. Always I have done.

“Sometimes it is not possible. Sometimes you have an idea, the opponent surprises you, is better than you that day, has incredible top quality players and they beat you.

“Shake hands, congratulations. Learn from that, next one.”
