The Norwegian arrived at the Etihad Stadium earlier this summer with a reputation as one the best strikers in world football and made a flying start to his City career by scoring twice against West Ham United on his Premier League debut.

Guardiola is in no doubt that he has secured the services of an outstanding talent and, whilst there is plenty to admire about his football ability, the Catalan has also noted Haaland’s humility and his willingness to engage with the youngsters involved in the first-team set-up.
“He is an exceptional player,” he said at his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Bournemouth.
“It is not necessary to tell you, everybody knows it, but we are just a few times together. He is an incredible competitor, and he wants to win.
“What impressed me the most is the fact that he has had an incredibly good education for the fact he is a very humble guy, how much he talks a lot to the young players - not just the important players we have.
“He has settled good.”
Still only 22, it has felt like Haaland has been at the top of his game for several years after a superb spell at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 86 goals in 89 games.
Numerous strengths were on display during his Man of the Match showing against West Ham.
He scored two composed finishes, linked up well with City’s midfield and showcased the pace and power which makes him a nightmare for defenders.
Guardiola, however, is convinced he can get even better during his time at the Etihad.
“Erling, like Julian [Alvarez] or [Phil] Foden or [Cole] Palmer have a lot of margin to improve,” he added.
“I would like to make these players better. Erling can be a better player and I think he has the will to do it.
“I never see a player 21, 22 years - maybe Messi - but the rest are never finished business.
“Always you can improve, and we will try. When he leaves, we want him to say he is a better player than when he arrived.
“Phil Foden is incredible player but he can be better. This is the reason why we are here - the staff, manager, my assistant coaches - is to help them.”
