Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Leroy Sane has told Manchester City he does not want to extend his contract.

Guardiola says he expects Sane to leave the Club at the end of this season or next summer, when his current deal expires, after the German winger rejected several offers to stay.

“Leroy said he doesn’t want to extend his contract,” the City boss revealed at his pre-match press conference ahead of Monday’s game against Burnley.

“It means he wants to leave. So that will happen this summer or at the end of his contract.

“The club offered two or three times and he rejected it. He wants to play at another club.”

Sane has scored 39 goals and provided 45 assists in 134 appearances and was named PFA Young Player of the Year in 2018 as he helped City to a historic 100-point title.

Guardiola admitted it will be a blow to see such a talented player depart, but is adamant there are no hard feelings and says he will continue to help the player, who is fit again after a 10 month injury layoff, until he leaves.

“I am so disappointed,” added Guardiola.

“When we make an offer to a player it’s because we want him. He has a special quality that is difficult to find.

“We tried before his injury and now and he has other wishes. We want players who want to play with the club to achieve targets.

“We respect him. He is a nice guy, a special player and I love him so much. I have nothing against him - but he wants another adventure.

“We will help him until the last day he is here.”

City Restart: Episode Two

Ahead of Burnley’s visit on Monday evening, Guardiola clarified the situation regarding, Claudio Bravo and John Stones’ fitness, after the duo were left out of the matchday squad against Arsenal.

Both players had picked up minor injuries during the build-up to the game and whilst it remains to be seen if they will be ready for the Clarets, their condition is improving.

The boss also confirmed that Bravo, whose contract is due to expire, will remain at the Club until the 2019/20 season is complete.

“He will stay until the end of the season, like David [Silva],” Pep explained.

“He had a bit of a muscular problem. He stayed here in England during lockdown. He arrived back well, but a week before the first game, he had pain in his back.

“Yesterday he started to run. So in a few days he will be back training.

“John had a problem in his ankle. He is at the end now of his recovery.”

There is good news regarding Eric Garcia, too.

He was taken to hospital after he suffered a head injury following a nasty collision with Ederson against the Gunners, but there are no serious concerns and the 19-year-old has returned home.

However, concussion rules mean he will miss the game against Sean Dyche’s side.

“It’s a protocol to be off for one week/10 days,” said Guardiola. “We saw him yesterday and of course he has damaged his face.

“He left hospital and he feels quite good after what happened with Ederson and hopefully in a week or ten days he will be ready.”
