Having helped Barcelona to a maiden European Cup in 1992, which was preceded by two final defeats, the Catalan is acutely aware that some teams require multiple attempts to get over the line in the showpiece game.

However, he acknowledges some clubs arrive in the unchartered territory of a first final ready to grasp their opportunity and is hopeful that his record-breaking City side can do just that to continue this unprecedented era of achievement.
“When we won the 1992 [final] in Barcelona, they lose two or three times [before],” Guardiola said at the first of two pre-match press conferences this week.
“Some were unlucky, so unlucky. Sometimes you need time.
“Sometimes clubs need more finals to win the first one, others need one shot. Hopefully that will be the case.
“We are new for many things. In this period we live, back to back [Premier League titles] for the first time, break a lot of records, semi-final for the second time, final for the first time.
“As a club we’re not old in this case. In terms of how excited, delighted, satisfied, nobody can beat us.
“I am so confident in my team. You cannot imagine how confident I am in my team and what we have to do.”
Despite the anticipation ahead of the biggest game in the Club’s history, City will be preparing as normal, with Guardiola aiming for a stress-free week.
The City boss revealed the bulk of his side’s pre-match work will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, after the players and staff have analysed our previous games for areas of improvement.
“We were preparing to win the Premier League until three games ago and the real preparation for the Champions League will be on Wednesday and Thursday,” he added.
“The rest [of the week] we have a good mood, no stress.
“For the last three games we’ll look at good and bad things and then Wednesday and Thursday we prepare for the final.”
