Pep Guardiola says that 'every game will be a final' from now on as City prepare to return to Premier League action away to Leicester City tomorrow.

After a fortnight’s break due to the international World Cup programme, City will step out at the King Power Stadium 14 points clear at the top of the table with just eight games to play.

Brendan Rodgers’ side have enjoyed another fine season and lie third in he able having played a game less than City.

And looking ahead to the game Guardiola, was in no doubt to the test awaiting his players, pointing to the impressive 5-2 win Leicester secured at the Etihad back in September.

“Leicester is a top class team - they can beat us. The depth of their squad... I am impressed,” the boss asserted.

“We will be closer to winning the title if we win and then every game after that is a final. The team will feel that, and we are ready to try it.

“People say we are close. The champions are Liverpool. We are in the best position. But United and Leicester can win a lot of games.

Easter Egg

“Everything in football can happen. We need more than four wins to be champions and tomorrow is the first one, we will try. After that game I will think of Borussia Dortmund.”

The boss was also mindful of the way that the Foxes can adapt to specific systems should the need arise.

And he said they possess star quality throughout their squad, pointing to the likes of Wilfred Ndi and Youri Tielemans.

“Leicester can play in different ways four in back. Five, one striker, two strikers. They can play good build up because of the keeper. People in between like Tielemans and Maddison - they have the quality,” the boss added.

“They can play in different ways. Brendan knows the team and the mood and momentum today decide what they are going to do. We have to adapt.

“You see all the players, they have quality. Ndidi is going well, Tielemans is a top-class player. I remember when Vincent Kompany started talking about how good he was. Vincent as always was right. Top players with quality.

“When you defend deep, they have the quality to find sources. Top class team. We have eight games left and they are third, it means they have done incredibly well. Not just this one. They were champions with Ranieri and always they were there.

“They continue to build a team. I have admiration for all the clubs. They have been doing really well for a long time.”

The boss also revealed that his international contingent had all come back fit from the World Cup qualifiers.

“Everyone is fit, the COVID-19 tests are negative and tomorrow we will prepare for the gam,” he added.
