Pep Guardiola says he leaves Manchester City supremely confident the Club are ideally placed to continue to be successful going forward.

The legendary Catalan signed off after 10 glorious years on Sunday.

Though his final game saw City slip to a 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa, it proved another season to savour with the Club winning both the FA Cup and Carabao Cup and finishing second in the Premier League.

City now prepare for life without the man who brought us 20 trophies in what has been without question the greatest era in the Club’s history.

Addressing the media in his final press conference, the departing boss and legend of the game was iron-clad in his conviction that the Club are ideally poised to carry on being successful.

And he said his successor would enjoy unconditional support and backing from the City hierarchy.

“Because they are stubborn and know exactly what they want to do,” Pep said in terms of why he was so confident about City looking to the future.

“They know perfectly that the opponents are so tough here and in Europe.

“Any trophy we win we don’t take for granted. We won a final against Arsenal and another against Chelsea. I would not say there are not good teams.

“We fought a team like Aston Villa who won the Europa League and are a top team.

“All I would like to say to the fans is every single step, enjoy everything that you do.

“Don’t wait to win the Champions League to be happy, enjoy the process.

“I know the players here they will do it. I know it.

“When the club tells me which one it is [his successor] I will call him. I will tell him the same like I said yesterday: be yourself.

“The club will support you unconditionally, which is the biggest compliment.

“All the managers that have been here have been lucky with Txiki and now Hugo, Ferran, with all the work he’s done, and especially Khaldoon.

“Be yourself, you will be protected in the bad moments, more than at any other club.

“Be free in your ideas, go there, work a lot.

“We built when we arrived here, always my message was win that game. League One in the Carabao Cup? Try to win the game and see what happens then move on.

“That is the best way.

“I’m pretty sure knowing the people here, that is going to happen.

“And everything will be fine. Everything.”
