In their time together, City have collected 18 trophies, including a first-ever UEFA Champions League, six Premier Leagues, two FA Cups, four League Cups, three Community Shields as well as a UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
During this scintillating spell, the Blues have also won a memorable Treble triumph in 2022/23, the Big Five across 2023 as well as becoming the first men’s team in the history of English football to win the top-flight title four years in a row after success in 2023/24.
The manager thinks the role of our brilliant Brazilian has been crucial in these unprecedented accomplishments, which have given rise to Centurions, Fourmidables, Treble Winners, Champions of the World and History Makers.
“I said many times how many years we are together, the success we had, without him I cannot visualise, I cannot,” said the boss as he addressed the media after the goalkeeper’s top performance in the 3-2 triumph over Fulham.
“He made two incredible saves. Stefan is the best I have seen in one-v-one and working with him I am pretty sure Eddy gets it. We have Xabi [Mancisidor] and Richard [Wright], they are unbelievable coaches.
“He makes incredible saves at important moments of the game. At the end, the big keepers have to save these actions.
“I remember in the Champions League, at certain moments he saved it and we won. When he didn’t save it, we could not go through. The keepers have to make these actions to win games.”
Ederson was the subject of summer speculation as he was linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League.
No transfer materialised and the manager stressed he wanted to keep his No.31 - an ‘important figure’ - at the Etihad.
Guardiola insists ‘we are lucky to have him’ as Ederson continues his battle with ‘exceptional’ Stefan Ortega Moreno for a spot between the posts for the champions.
“He is an important figure with our team,” the boss added.
“We are lucky to have him and I hope he is happy.
“Eddy knows us really well and what we have to do.
“He knew from day one that I didn’t want him to leave. The truth is the offer didn’t come. The real offer.
“They make an offer but the keeper who won four Premier Leagues in a row, he has a value and a price. Otherwise he cannot leave.
“If the offer did come, maybe he should not be here. This is the truth.
“Ederson is so strong but when he changed his mind, in one second he said he is here and he is going to do his best.
“Stefan is exceptional and Ederson has the feeling he has to perform well otherwise Stefan can play.
“This competition they have because they have respect and healthy relationship makes our team better.”
