Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Jack Grealish and Josko Gvardiol remain sidelined for Tuesday’s Premier League clash at home to Brentford but that every other member of the City squad is fit and available for selection.

Grealish was forced off with a muscular problem during last Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 3-1 victory at FC Copenhagen.

Gvardiol meanwhile has not featured since starting in the 3-1 win at Brentford two weeks ago and was not part of the matchday squad for either the trip to Copenhagen nor last Saturday’s 1-1 draw at home to Chelsea due to an ankle issue.

Addressing the media at Monday’s pre-match press conference, the City boss confirmed the pair were still unavailable but that otherwise there was a clean bill of health amongst his squad.

“They (Grealish and Gvardiol) are not ready for tomorrow. Everyone else is OK,” Guardiola confirmed.

Tuesday’s game comes just two weeks after City recorded that impressive victory at Brentford’s Gtech Stadium in west London.

Thomas Frank’s side will arrive at the Etihad sat in 14th place in the Premier League with 25 points to their name so far.

However, Guardiola is under no illusions that his side will face another testing encounter against the Bees.

The boss says that Brentford striker Ivan Toney, who has netted four goals in five games since his return from an eight-month suspension for betting infringements, is a player City will need to especially guard against.

And in the wake of the Chelsea draw, Guardiola also insisted that the pressure surrounding Tuesday’s encounter remained exactly the same

“He [Toney] is so dangerous. [With] long balls he is the master, how he uses his body,” Guardiola pointed out.

“You can link with him, he is one of the best I have seen.

“The goal we conceded [at Brentford] we defended not properly but he did it really well.

“We won 11 games [in a row before Chelsea]. Next game we have the same pressure,” Pep added.

“Since we lost to Aston Villa, we have won our games and been better but I can’t guarantee anything - but we are still there.

“The pressure is the same. No difference.”
