City boss Pep Guardiola says that Erling Haaland is fit and available for Saturday’s return to Premier League action at home to Burnley.

In a further boost, Guardiola also revealed that Mateo Kovacic – who has been sidelined all season with an Achilles problem – ‘maybe’ in contention for a return to action.

Haaland, who has begun the 2025/26 season in prolific form, missed last Wednesday’s Carabao Cup third round victory away at Huddersfield Town after coming off with a slight back issue in last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Arsenal.

However, addressing the media at Friday’s pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of the Clarets, the boss confirmed that he was fit and available to play.

“He’s ready,” Pep declared.

As for Kovacic who has been on the sidelines since the end of last season, the boss said that City would exercise caution in managing his return

“Kova maybe [available],” Pep added.

“It would help] a lot to have Kova back. It’s a long injury, surgery, but he is getting ready. He is not fully ready but step-by-step.”

The boss also confirmed that a number of other players are still expected to be sidelined this week.

Guardiola added that Rayan Cherki (thigh), Rayan Ait-Nouri (muscular issue), and Omar Marmoush (knee) are all set to remain unavailable for Saturday’s clash.

Newly promoted to the Premier League this term, Burnley have made a decent fist of things so far this season and proved highly competitive in every game.

And looking ahead to the visit of the Clarets, who lie 16th on four points from five games, Pep said he was anticipating the toughest of tests.

“Different game - most Championship squads [coming up] do an unbelievable job,” the boss added.

“The Premier League is tough every game. We have a good vibe and hope we can continue.”
