The Premier League champions made Sergio Gomez our fourth signing of the summer on Tuesday, as the Spanish full-back followed Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Kalvin Phillips through the door at the Etihad Stadium.
It has been a summer of change at City, with Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Raheem Sterling all departing, but Guardiola does not anticipate the Club will be involved in any more deals unless a significant change was to happen which made reinforcements absolutely necessary.
“Apparently, yes,” he said when asked if City’s transfer business was complete ahead of Sunday’s game against Newcastle United.
“But if someone moves or there is a problem we don’t expect, then maybe it will happen. But apparently, it is done.”
And, when asked for an update on Bernardo Silva’s future, Guardiola reiterated that he hopes the midfielder will remain at the Etihad.
“He is our player and he knows our wishes as a club, me as manager, even his mates,” he added.
“What is going to happen, I don’t know.
“I said many times [that I want him to stay].”
Guardiola will be hoping Haaland, Ortega Moreno, Phillips, Gomez and Julian Alvarez, who arrived this summer following a loan spell at River Plate, can continue City’s success rate in the transfer market.
The likes of Ederson, Ruben Dias, Ilkay Gundogan Bernardo Silva, John Stones and Kyle Walker have all proved to be astute acquisitions, developing into key pillars of the most successful era in the Club’s history.
Guardiola says there is no magic formula for the trophy-laden spell he has presided over but believes the Club’s strength on and off the pitch stems from an aligned approach stretching from the playing staff to the boardroom.
“No one has the secret for success in world football,” he explained.
“When you believe you have it, football will punch you and you will fall down.
“One of the good things this club has, is we are aligned with the thoughts, in terms of who we want to buy and who we want to play.
“We are on the same page. That is for sure. That is why I am here a long time, because we agree.
“That doesn’t mean having the same idea means success because you can buy a player that doesn’t work, or the decision of the manager is not correct.
“But we agree the line we want to do all together and this helps a lot.”
