In front of a sold-out crowd amidst a raucous and passionate atmosphere, City produced a stunning display to march four points clear at the top of the table.
On a landmark night, Phil Foden’s opener chalked up the 500th goal of Guardiola’s Premier League reign.
And a goal blitz ensued with Jack Grealish registering a first header in the Premier League, Kevin De Bruyne (2), Riyad Mahrez, John Stones and Nathan Ake also on target,
It made it seven league wins in a row and was our 33rd win the calendar year equalling the record set by Bob Paisley’s Liverpool.
And as he reflected on the win, the City boss paid special tribute to the supporters.
“Yeah, we played a really good game,” Guardiola asserted.
“We dropped five points against Leeds last season with the same guys we had today except Jack.
“We started in a good rhythm and our central defenders made good build-up. We were patient with the ball and the quality of the players did the rest.
“It was a good game. The vibe at the stadium was phenomenal.
“It was sold out today and when this happens the players feel it.
“Thanks so much to them (the fans). It was a pleasure.”
Guardiola also pointed to how Leeds almost claimed a point at Chelsea on Saturday in praising the all-round approach of his players.
And he stressed it was far from comfortable despite the scoreline.
“We dropped five points last season (against Leeds). Comfortable is nothing. We did a good job. I saw the game against Chelsea and they deserved a point,” Guardiola added.
“I know how good they are. Doing what they do is unique. They are the best at it.
“But the tempo and the patience that we played with was good to win the game.
The boss also provided a fitness update on Bernardo Silva who was substituted at half-time.
“He had muscular niggles. Nothing was injured but he was a little bit uncomfortable. But at 3-0 we didn’t want to take the risk,” Pep added.
