Pep Guardiola says his City squad are ‘completely on fire’ as we look to provide the perfect response to Sunday’s derby defeat by bouncing back to winning ways against Southampton on Wednesday evening.

Our remarkable 21-game winning run came to an end with Sunday’s 2-0 loss to Manchester United – but despite that setback, City are 11 points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

And with just 10 games left in the league programme, the boss knows a victory against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s side would be another huge boost towards our hopes of regaining the title.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Guardiola insisted that the players had overcome the disappointment of Sunday’s result and that there would be no change in approach or focus.

“We have ten games left and we have to win six or seven to do it (win the title) mathematically,” Guardiola asserted.

“There was a mix of disappointment, sadness (after Sunday). The second day was better and today completely on fire. It’s a common reaction.

“Everyone realised how difficult it is to win good games, to do a good run. We did it and now we focus on the next one.

“There is still a lot of work to do to arrive in the last games in contention to win the Premier League. We are alive in all competitions.

“No, absolutely not (will there be a change in preparation). Even when we win, it’s forgotten. When we lose, the same.

“We are not going to be depressed - it’s football. You can lose games. The not normal thing is what we have done [winning run]. United is a top side, top club.

“Every team is fighting for something. We are seeing how tough the games are. Tomorrow will not be an exception.

“We think of the next one, be focused, positive. We want to continue being who we are and if we do this, we will win more games.”

Meanwhile Guardiola confirmed City had no injury concerns ahead of the Saints clash.

With Nathan Ake available for selection again, and no issues arising from Sunday’s Manchester derby, the City boss again has a full squad to select from.

Quizzed about the potential of Sergio Aguero and Phil Foden being selected to start, the boss said he was still assessing his various selection options.

“Maybe (Aguero and Foden will start). I will decide tomorrow,” the boss revealed.

“I have an idea of course about who will play, but tomorrow I will decide.”
