Pep Guardiola believes Manchester City's summer arrivals can make a positive impact on the team early in their careers at the Etihad Stadium.

Four players have joined the Club so far this summer - Julian Alvarez, Erling Haaland, Stefan Ortega Moreno and Kalvin Phillips.

Those signings have been balanced by permanent outgoings from the first team squad with Fernandinho, Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and Oleksandr Zinchenko all seeking new challenges while Zack Steffen will spend 2022/23 out on loan.

Alvarez, Haaland, Ortega Moreno and Phillips were all part of the recent pre-season tour of the USA and enjoyed their first minutes in a City shirt.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference before Saturday’s FA Community Shield meeting with Leicester, Pep admitted to being impressed by their attitude so far.

When asked whether they would take a while to bed in, he said: “Hopefully not. The quicker they settle the better. My feeling is they will not take time.

“Stefan surprised us a lot with how good he is in all aspects. Kalvin knows the Premier League perfectly. The way they have behaved and from the few minutes they have played they have settled well.”

Saturday’s curtain raiser to the season is between the top two sides in the Premier League in 2022/23.

City were the eventual winners of the title, holding off Jurgen Klopp’s side in a race that went down to the closing minutes on the final day, while Liverpool lifted the FA Cup.

Having won four of the last five Premier League titles, City will again be the side to beat once it kicks off next weekend.

However, Pep expects several teams to be aiming to knock us off our perch.

“I expect a lot of clubs involved,” he said.

“Like every single season, with the quality they all have in terms of managers, players and history.

“If I knew it or I was able to predict the future I would tell you. Normally in the Premier League there are many teams so you expect that.”
