Maximo Perrone featured as a substitute in Argentina’s 5-0 win over New Zealand on Friday evening.

The 20-year-old took to the pitch in the 69th minute and assisted Alejo Veliz late in the game to score Argentina’s final goal of the evening.

The win means they topped Group A of the U20 World Cup undefeated, having beaten Uzbekistan 2-1 and Guatemala 3-0 in their earlier group games, with Perrone scoring his first goal of the tournament in the latter match.

The tournament hosts took the lead in the 14th minute after Ignacio Maestro Puch headed the ball into the back of the net.

First half goals from Gino Infantino and Luka Romero extended Argentina’s lead before the break.

Brian Aguirre scored the fourth from the penalty spot in the 50th minute to put Argentina into cruise control.

Perrone, who joined City in January from Velez Sarsfield, replaced Romero in the 69th minute to provide fresh legs in Argentina’s midfield.

And in the 85th minute Perrone whipped a precise cross into the box to allow Veliz to head the ball home comfortably to set the seal on a dominant victory.
