The prestigious accolade follows on the back of a 2023/24 campaign that was widely acknowledged as the finest season yet in the Academy graduate’s glittering career.
The England attacking midfielder was one of the key components in helping drive Pep Guardiola’s side to what was an historic fourth consecutive Premier League – the first time any English men’s team has achieved such a feat.
Foden achieved a career high return of 19 goals from 35 Premier League appearances, providing eight assists, the best return of his senior career.
Overall meanwhile, the 24-year-old claimed 27 goals from 53 appearances across all competitions, also helping City to success in both the 2023 UEFA Super Cup and 2023 FIFA Club World Cup where he produced a man of the match display in the 4-0 final win against Fluminense.
Alongside the goals and inspired creativity in attack, Foden once again demonstrated his tactical flexibility, operating in a host of different positions for City where he again illustrated his quality either by being deployed wide or in a more creative central role.
This latest plaudit – one voted for by his fellow professionals – followed Foden being voted as the Premier League Player of the Year, the Football Writer’s Association Footballer of the Year and City’s Etihad Player of the Season.
In further recognition of his impact, Foden was also voted into the PFA Team of the Year, alongside City colleagues Kyle Walker, Rodrigo and Erling Haaland.
“To win this award is something very special and it is one that I am very proud of and grateful for,” said Foden.
“To be recognised this way by your fellow professionals means everything and I would like to thank everyone who voted for me.
“I also want to pay special thanks to Pep, the City coaches and all my team mates as they help me to try and get better every single day.
“I’d also like congratulate Kyle, Rodrigo and Erling on being voted into the PFA Team of the Year as it’s great to see their amazing quality recognised in such a way.
“Last season was another very special one for everyone at the Club but now all our focus is concentrated on trying to achieve more success this term.”
City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain added his own tribute to Foden’s latest accolade, saying: “Everyone here is so thrilled to see Phil win this award.
“To have your fellow professionals recognise you in such a way is very special.
“Phil embodies everything we stand for at Manchester City.
“He is a supremely talented player but is someone who always strives to seek to improve and he is a very humble guy who is hugely popular throughout the Club.
“We are all very proud of him.”
Everyone at Manchester City would like to send our congratulations to Phil on this latest well-deserved accolade.
