Phil Foden’s strike to open the scoring against Leeds United on Tuesday means Manchester City have now scored 500 Premier League goals since Pep Guardiola took charge in the summer of 2016.

It’s a remarkable record, with the 500 goals coming in just 207 matches – an average of 2.4 goals per game.

That means he is the quickest manager to reach 500 in the competition’s history.

Jurgen Klopp, who sits second on the list, took charge of 234 Premier League matches before his Liverpool side made it to 500, with Alex Ferguson in third having seen his Manchester United side strike 500 times in his opening 265 games.

The Guardiola era has been one of sweeping success, with three Premier League titles, one FA Cup and four League Cups already secured.

And on top of the glittering array of silverware, he has revolutionised the team’s playing style, turning City into one of the finest exponents of open, attractive football in the game.

Everyone at City would like to congratulate Pep and his backroom staff on yet another significant milestone.
