The midfielder produced an excellent finish to divert home Kevin De Bruyne’s cross in the early stages and could’ve had a second, heading in another cross from the Belgian, before looking across to see the linesman’s flag raised.
However, a solitary goal proved to be enough for Pep Guardiola’s side, who have increased our lead at the top of the Premier League table to eight points, but Foden has insisted that the squad must remain focused heading into 2022.
“It was an important win today,” he said.
“Brentford made it really difficult, they are a physical team, very dangerous off set pieces so we had to keep going until the final whistle and I’m proud of the team for doing that.
“Around Christmas time, you can’t take your foot off the gas, you have to keep going and remained focused which this team is doing at the moment and you can see we are getting lots of points.
“It is the most challenging league in the world and it just goes to show that you can drop points at any time.
“The team is remaining focused at the moment and playing really well so I am happy.”
Foden, who played a variety of positions at the Brentford Community Stadium including as a false nine, was also quick to remark how pleased he is to play in that role.
“I’m enjoying it,” he explained.
“I started on the left in the first half so it is really good that I am adaptable and can fit in anywhere.
“Maybe in the future, I can move into there but wherever the manager puts me I try and do my best for the team.”
