The 20-year-old City midfielder was afforded his first start away to Iceland as Club colleague Raheem Sterling’s 89th minute penalty secured a priceless 1-0 win for the Three Lions.
Foden produce a measured encouraging display against a committed and well organised Iceland side before making way midway through the second half.
And, as the Stockport-born youngster reflected on the experience, he admitted it was an evening he would never forget – and he set his sights on many more moments with the national side.

“It feels amazing, a dream come true. A big moment for me and my family,” Foden reflected.
“It was a very difficult game, we defended well and showed great character. To get that win is massive.
“We all try to play our football. It was frustrating at times but we came through in the end.
“I want to keep playing for my country, not just (to be) a one off and, hopefully, I can keep the shirt.”
It looked like England would have to settle for a draw before a dramatic finale saw first Sterling score from the spot after an Iceland handball and then the hosts squander their own spot-kick in injury time.
All that came after City full-back Kyle Walker had been sent off 20 minutes from time after picking up a second yellow card.
Reflecting on the game, Sterling admitted he and his colleagues were relieved to be able to get the win in such testing circumstances.
“It was tough but we got through it. It was definitely strange but I’d rather play matches than training,” Sterling acknowledged.
“We knew it would be difficult. We knew we had to challenge ourselves deep within. We kept playing our football, kept compact.
“We got the penalty, we shouldn’t have conceded that sloppy penalty, but we got lucky in the end.
“We have a bright future ahead and we need to keep growing as a team.”
Meanwhile, Walker admitted he was hugely disappointed at his dismissal - but insisted it had made him even more determined to contribute to the national cause going forward.
“To get sent off for your country is never a nice moment especially after being out of the team for so long and being on 49 caps,” the right back said.
“I have to take the full blame. To make a rash challenge like that is not acceptable. I don’t blame the pressure, I am a seasoned professional and I should know how to manage a game.
“You have to say fair play to the lads for digging in and fighting and getting the win.
“The first couple of games back were always going to be tough. We have a good bond here, a great spirit. Maybe it was why I got the red card, I want to leave everything on the pitch for everyone.
“Hopefully I will be back. I have to talk to the boss and see what he wants to do. I am more than happy to say I want to be around the team. I have missed it.”
Meanwhile Joao Cancelo was on target and Bernardo Silva also featured as Portugal beat Croatia 4-1 in their Nations League opener.
