Manchester City and clubs across the Premier League will celebrate Stonewall’s Rainbow Laces campaign at all fixtures between 2 and 7 December, to demonstrate its collective support for LGBTQ+ inclusion.

This includes special matchday takeovers at Sunday’s home match against Tottenham Hotspur, and our away fixture against Aston Villa on Wednesday 6th December.

Meanwhile, the Women’s Super League’s Rainbow Laces takeover started last week, with our Women’s First Team starting their Rainbow Laces celebrations during their 7-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur. The team will continue to celebrate the campaign against Aston Villa on Saturday 9th December.

The Rainbow Laces campaign provides an opportunity to focus on the year-round equality and inclusion work that takes place, as the League and clubs use their platforms to encourage discussion and demonstrate allyship.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Rainbow Laces, with the theme of ‘Let’s Lace Up to Keep It Up’. This looks at how sport has become more inclusive over the last decade, while also highlighting the need for ongoing work to ensure sport is a safe space for members of the LGBTQ+ community.

During the campaign window, rainbow armbands will be worn by captains across all our games, with Rainbow Laces branding also widely visible within stadiums throughout the period.

And fans can hear from City Matters LGBTQ+ Representative Lee Broadstock in this Sunday’s matchday programme.

Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said: “The Premier League carries out a wide range of work with our clubs throughout the year to embed equality, diversity and inclusion across everything we do.

“There has been considerable progress to make football a more inclusive environment for the LGBTQ+ community since the Rainbow Laces campaign launched a decade ago. We are determined to maintain this momentum to make sure football is welcoming for everyone and send a clear message that discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated.”

As part of the Club’s commitment to creating a fantastic matchday experience for all fans, we operate a zero-tolerance approach to all forms of discrimination and this includes any form of homophobic behaviour.

If you see or hear such behaviour, fans are encouraged to talk to a steward or the police, or report it on the Kick It Out app.

Alternatively, any fans who see or hear abusive behaviour can text 0770 015 1894 to make our dedicated security team aware of what they have witnessed.
