There have been a number of notable senior departures within the City squad since the end of last season with the likes of Bernardo Silva and John Stones having moved on.
It means despite still being just 21, with more than 100 senior games under his belt, Lewis is now one of the most experienced members of the City squad.
However, addressing the media at Saturday’s pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday’s final 2026 Asia Tour game against Atletico Madrid in Seoul, Lewis said it was a role he was relishing.

“Yes, it’s strange, [being one of the most experienced players] as obviously I am still quite young,” Lewis said speaking at Saturday’s pre-match press conference.
“It does definitely feel like that [I am more experienced] with people leaving - but that’s part of football.
“Some leave, some stay.
“I am just excited now to see what the season holds.”
The biggest change over the summer has seen Enzo Maresca come in as new manager in succession to Pep Guardiola.
Lewis is no stranger to Maresca, having worked under him across the 2022/23 Treble winning campaign when the Italian was part of Guardiola’s City back-room staff.
It’s still very early days of course in terms of how Maresca’s City reign will shape up.
But reflecting on the first three weeks or so of life under the new manager, the England international revealed how enjoyable it was working under Maresca.
Lewis also revealed how many elements of life were similar to how City worked under Guardiola but with a number of subtle variations and differences thrown in.
“I think in terms of football, only so much can be different,” the Academy graduate added.
“Getting fit, getting to know patterns and stuff like that.
“It has been pretty similar.
“He’s a new manager, he has new ideas and once you start it’s about implementing them on the pitch.
“We’ve been working hard and it’s been enjoyable.”
