Wednesday night’s disappointing 1-0 loss away at Aston Villa marked a fourth Premier League game in a row without a win for City, following three successive draws against Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham.
That sequence of results marked the first time in seven years that City have gone four league games without a win.
And following what has been a tough, demanding schedule of games, the Villa result saw Pep Guardiola’s side slip down to fourth in the Premier League table.

However, Lewis says just looking at the calibre and quality of his Etihad team-mates – alongside their depth of experience – tells him that City will quickly arrest the blip in results and get back to winning ways as attention turns to Sunday’s league trip to Luton Town.
“The players in that dressing room are world class and they know how to get out of these things,” Lewis asserted.
“They’ve been in tough periods before, tougher than this.
“They’ll know more than me how to get out of these situations.
“I’m sure the manager and the players will not let this carry on in the near future and we’ll focus on what we can control which is the next game against Luton.”
Further reflecting on what was a tough night at Villa Park, Lewis also credited a talented Villa side who thanks to the victory leapfrogged City and moved up to third place in the Premier League table.
However, the England international was adamant that the squad would seek to digest and learn the lessons.

“Obviously (it was) a very difficult game against a really good team – they were much better than us and deserved the win,” Lewis added.
“In every aspect we weren’t good enough. They out-did us. Credit to them. In some games it’s like this but it’s not very often, it’s quite rare to lose in this kind of way.”
“It’s something that we will look at and we have to get right in the near future.”
