Bury-born Lewis will now be involved as the Three Lions conclude their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign with a visit from Malta on Friday and a trip to North Macedonia next Monday.
The 18-year-old academy graduate has made a strong start to the 2023/24 campaign with 10 appearances already, on the back of a brilliant 2022/23 season where he won Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League medals as part of the Treble squad.
The defender-cum-midfielder was originally part of the Under-21 set-up for this international break with Lee Carsley’s Young Lions due to face Serbia and Northern Ireland on Saturday and Tuesday in Euro 2025 Group F qualifiers.
But Lewis, who has four Under-21 caps to his name, has now been called up by Gareth Southgate for the senior double-header.
Congratulations to Rico from everyone at Manchester City.
