A superb Erling Haaland brace followed by Rodrigo’s powerful second-half strike ensured we made a strong start to the new campaign at Turf Moor.
It was also the perfect way for the Treble winners to begin the defence of our league crown as we ignited our relentless pursuit of major honours once again this season.
After making 24 sparkling appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side last season, the 18-year-old versatile defender started in the success over Vincent Kompany’s side.
And City’s starlet believes it’s imperative we start this season on the same upward trajectory we finished last term on.
“[I’m] very happy because we’ve come away with what we needed which was three points,” Lewis explained.
“It’s very important we carry on where we left off last season. It’s about getting the same tendencies – as we had last year – back into our play and carrying on.
“It’s never an easy game in the Premier League – especially with a newly promoted team.
“We got control of it pretty quickly – there was a spell where there was some uncertainty – but once we had control in that second half there was no uncertainty.
“We knew they would have fire in their bellies and would want to get off the ground running – this is their home crowd and their stadium.

“They’re a very good team and we have a lot of respect for them, but we just had to manage it in the way we did.”
Next up for Guardiola’s team is the UEFA Super Cup final with Sevilla on Wednesday 16 August, with kick-off scheduled in Greece for 20:00 (UK).
It represents the first time the Club will have competed for the prestigious European honour thanks to our maiden Champions League success last term.
And Lewis is relishing the opportunity to add to his already impressive trophy cabinet.
He added: “It’s a new competition for us – we’ve never won it; the club has never won it. It’s another trophy that we want to go and win and an important thing we want to go and take on.
“Thanks to them [supporters] for supporting us. We’ll continue to train and play as hard as we can to carry on winning as many trophies as we can for them.”
