Rico Lewis believes City teammate Ruben Dias is one of the best leaders in world football.

Since his summer 2020 arrival at the Club, the Portugal international has made 171 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side so far and impressively lifted seven major honours during that time.

A commanding presence in our defence, the centre-back has consistently shown his capabilities as a classy operator after switching from Benfica.

For Academy graduate Lewis, he’s honoured to follow the example set by Dias on and off the pitch.

“Ruben [Dias] – his mentality is the biggest asset that’s so clear and one of the best in the world in how he leads everyone,” he explained.

“He looks at himself first before he looks at everyone else. He leads by example.”

Following City’s thrilling 4-2 Premier League victory over Crystal Palace, we next face Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of our Champions League quarter-final tie.

It represents the third season in succession we’ve faced Los Blancos in the knockout stages of the European competition.

With City continuing to fight on three fronts at the business end of the term, Lewis is relishing the challenge of Carlo Ancelotti’s side.

He added: “Of course, it’s a huge game [against Real Madrid].

“If it was against [Real] Madrid or anyone in the Champions League at this stage, it’s a massive game.

“With the history that we’ve got with Madrid it will be a huge game and I’m guessing a really good one to watch.”
