Riyad Mahrez said his stunning strike that helped City record a record-breaking 3-1 win at Everton was the result of his special ‘connection’ with Bernardo Silva.

The pair linked up in devastating fashion midway through the second half with Mahrez delivering an exquisite shot from Bernardo’s assist to help City retake the lead.

Bernardo then capped his own superb display with a third goal to set the seal on victory to help City record another English top-flight record.

Victory at Goodison - our 17th straight win in all competitions - also saw us set a new English record of 10 consecutive top-flight league wins at the start of a year.

Our 3-1 victory away at Everton means we move clear of Bolton Wanderers, who managed nine league wins in a row at the start of 1904, and Manchester United, who began 2009 with nine on the bounce.

And reflecting in the latest win, Mahrez hailed his on-field rapport with Bernardo.

“We tried to pass and move to find space to score the goal,” Riyad revealed.

“We [himself and Bernardo Silva] have always had a good connection, we don’t even need to speak to each other we know where we are. We all know each other.

“We train so well we know the movement. When you keep winning and scoring goals the confidence grows. It is difficult for the opponent.

“We are in a very good moment.

“I don’t know about the title we only think about the next game - Arsenal.”
