Our Algerian winger – who was voted the December Etihad Player of the Month – has been in sparkling form throughout the past month.
In fact, no other player has scored and created more goals than Riyad in January.
He began the month by coming off the bench to convert Jack Grealish’s low cross and seal a 1-0 win at Chelsea.
Though not included in this award, he then bagged two goals in the FA Cup tie against Chelsea three days later.
His outstanding performance against Tottenham saw him score twice and set another up for Erling Haaland as City came from 2-0 down to win 4-2 at the Etihad.
And he completed the first month of the new year by unselfishly helping Haaland complete his hat-trick against Wolves while also having a goal of his own chalked off by VAR for a marginal offside decision.
All in all, a terrific month for a player who is now our second top scorer with 10 goals in all competitions.
Mahrez faces competition from six other players for the award.
Newcastle’s Dan Burn, Nottingham Forest’s Brennan Johnson, Brighton’s Solly March, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, Brentford’s David Raya and Arsenal’s Buyako Saka have also been nominated.
Voting for the award is open now and closes at noon on Monday 30 January.
