Riyad Mahrez said the impressive manner of City's biggest win of the season against Burnley overshadowed the personal importance of registering his first hat-trick for the Club.

The Algerian was in inspirational form as City secured a superb 5-0 win against the Clarets to record our fourth Premier League win of the season and move up to eighth place in the table.

With Mahrez scoring a hat-trick and Benjamin Mendy and Ferran Torres also on target, it was the perfect response to last weekend’s frustrating loss at Spurs and also saw us rediscover our trademark cutting edge in front of goal.

And reflecting on the win, Mahrez said City would not rest on our laurels but instead use today’s display as the ideal benchmark going forward.

“It’s always good to score goals so I am very happy, but the most important thing was to win and create chances,” Mahrez declared.

“We are happy to score a lot of goals and create a lot of chance. We got three points, and we keep going.

“When you play well and you don’t score in games you have a bit of frustration but we have to keep working.

“We did keep working in training and in games to get the confidence back.

“Probably the last one [is my favourite goal] because I don’t score too many with my head.

“(Now) We have to take it game by game. We have a difficult game in Porto (to go) for the first place in the Champions’ League group on Tuesday so we will try to win as always.”
