Rodrigo says City need to show ‘the best of ourselves’ in the coming weeks to ensure our hard work so far this season pays off.

Pep Guardiola’s men welcome Liverpool to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday in what could prove a vital encounter in the Premier League title race.

A trip to the Spanish capital follows three days later as City aim to reach the Champions League semi-finals by getting past Atletico Madrid, before we once again face Liverpool in the FA Cup last four.

It’s a demanding fixture schedule, but one that Rodrigo believes is fully deserving of our efforts so far this campaign.

And the midfielder insists we must continue to focus on our performances in the short term to make the most of what we’ve achieved so far.

“We are in the crucial part of the season, we have to show the best version of ourselves,” the Spaniard declared.

“We need to give everything in the next few games. You fight for seven or eight months to try to get to the point where we are now, with options in three competitions.

“We deserve to be here and we want to win them all.

“We need to go step by step and now it’s time to focus on the game against Liverpool.”

Rodrigo played the full 90 minutes for City as we claimed a hard-fought 1-0 first leg win over Atletico Madrid in our Champions League quarter-final showdown.

With a difficult second leg beckoning at the Wanda Metropolitano, the Spaniard knows progression is still far from a foregone conclusion.

However, he remains confident that we have what it takes if we stick to our game plan.

He said: “We know this isn’t over. We are in the quarter-finals of the Champions League, we all know how difficult is to go through to the next step.

“We know the opponent we have in front, the way they play is so difficult.

“I wish we could have scored one more goal at least, but we go there with a small advantage.

“We will have the same plan as usual. It doesn’t matter where we play and at what stage we are, we are going to play the same way as always.

“We have our style of play and we are going to try to win with that.”
