The Spain international’s goal at Wembley on Sunday turned out to be the winning goal of the Carabao Cup final against Aston Villa.
And he believes the desire and hunger to win trophies will only grow stronger as City continue to add silverware to the trophy cabinet.
“It’s been a very important week for us, but this is not over yet,” said Rodrigo.
“We still have a few months of the season to go and that great result in the Champions League and the fighting spirit of the team says lots of good things about us, a team that never surrender.
“Winning the Carabao Cup three times in succession speaks a lot about our ambition, and our collective desire to keep winning.
“Every season this team does a reset and tries to fight for everything and this is not easy, when there are people here that have won this competition four or five times.
“For me is the first time, but the rest need to regenerate and renew their motivation every season. That’s the only way of keep growing and improving.
“We knew that Aston Villa were in the final because they deserved it.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game, very equal, with them being deep not giving us any spaces and they proved that.
“We could have scored more goals and it could have helped us to be calmer, but the game was open until the very end.”
Rodrigo claimed his fourth goal of the season – the best return of his career – and he is hoping to contribute more in the weeks that remain.
He admits that being on the score-sheet more than his previous seasons was not entirely expected.
“It’s a surprise for me!” he said.
“I’m not used on scoring goals but if it happens and it helps the team and it is a final and to win it, it’s something fantastic.
“But what makes me happier is that we’ve won a trophy and personally I’m growing and feeling very involved in this squad full of great people and amazing professionals.”
