Last season, City landed a historic Treble in an unforgettable season that Pep Guardiola has said will be difficult to emulate.
But Rodrigo says they are determined to try to do it again, with the Blues winning their opening four Premier League matches ahead of Saturday’s clash with West Ham at the London Stadium.
“I think in football you have to come back because you have new goals coming,” the midfielder said. “Of course, we have the good memories from last season, but we want to do it again.
“We have a structure, a team and a project to do it again and have more success. It is something you see in the team, that hunger to do it again.
“Whenever you have goals, it is the engine of life. We have new goals this season and we want to do it again.”
Rodrigo’s importance to the team in securing the three trophies cannot be understated has he made a big impact in the centre of midfield.
As well as intelligent reading of the game, he also contributed special goals including a wonder-strike against Bayern Munich and the winner in the Champions League final against Inter.
The Spaniard has led the way in making the holding midfield role more crucial with many clubs around Europe seeing it as a vital role to fill during the summer transfer window.
“I think there are lots of good [defensive midfielders] coming in and lots of them are in the Premier League,” he added.
“I think it is a position that is growing a lot into the teams and every team has a very good player in this position and the clubs know that. That is why they are trying to find these types of players.”
Rodrigo is also quick to give praise to Guardiola for helping him to become one of the most influential footballers in the world.
He moved to the Etihad Stadium in 2019 and the 27-year-old has made more than 200 appearances for the Club in becoming one of the key players for the City boss.
After missing the matches before the international break following surgery, Guardiola will be back on the touchline at West Ham, and Rodrigo is grateful for his support over the past four seasons.
“I think it is massive,” he said. “I always say the same, but all of the coaches I have had in my career have changed me in a way and improved me in a way.
“Of course, Pep is the manager I have been with the longest, so he has changed me the most.
“I understood football in one way and he readapted the way I thought about football. I see many things that I never saw before. I am very happy and I enjoy every day that I am with him.”
