Ruben Dias believes manager Pep Guardiola is the 'main piece' of City's trophy hunting side.

Dias has excelled in the second half of the 2022/23 season and was crucial in Wednesday’s 4-0 rout of Real Madrid at the Etihad Stadium.

The victory, thanks to goals from Bernardo Silva (2), Manuel Akanji and Julian Alvarez, sees us through to our second Champions League final in three seasons.

We’ll face Inter in Istanbul on 10 June, a week after an FA Cup final date with Manchester United at Wembley.

With the Blues also just one win from a third successive Premier League title and fifth in six seasons, it could be a special campaign for Guardiola‘s side.

Dias insists it’s the manager’s insatiable hunger for trophies that continues to drive the Club forward.

“He is the main piece of the team,” said Dias.

“Obviously, the team is important, and, in the end, it is the players that play on the pitch, but he is definitely the head of everything, and we play the game through his eyes.

“He has won everything, and he wants to continue to win. That hunger starts all over again every season – that’s his biggest quality.”

City cruised beyond the defending European champions to extend our unbeaten home record in the European competition to 26 matches.

We dominated proceedings at the Etihad, having 16 shots and 61% possession and Dias was proud of the way his team-mates performed.

“To reach this moment and the way we did it is special – especially against the team we faced and to do it at home,” he said.

“It was pretty close to perfection. When you face Madrid, you have to be as close to perfection as you can be.

“It was a big one from all of us as a team and we knew this was the only way to do it. Real Madrid is Real Madrid, and they are always dangerous – we just didn’t allow them to be.”

However, the defender is well aware there is plenty more work to do if we are to lift our first Champions League trophy.

“It’s not done yet,” he said.

“We want to win it, but we will never make the mistake of underestimating what is on the other side.

“A final is a final and it is always dangerous, but we will go there and do our best to get what we want.”
