Savinho chose the number as it was previously worn by Riyad Mahrez, one of his favourite players growing up and a forward he is trying to emulate.
Certainly, he is following in impressive footsteps with the Algerian winning 11 trophies during five years at the Etihad Stadium, making 236 appearances and scoring 78 goals.
It will be a new number for Savinho who wore 33 for previous clubs Atletico Mineiro and PSV Eindhoven and the number 16 last season for Girona.
For Brazil, he wore the number 20 shirt on his debut and at the Copa America this summer.
Before Mahrez, the No. 26 shirt was worn by Argentinian defender Martin Demichelis between 2013 and 2016.
Other City players to take the number include Israel defender Tal Ben Haim, Dutch midfielder Paul Bosvelt and Norwegian international Kare Ingebrigtsen.
Savinho is our first signing of the summer transfer window and will now look forward to the 2024/25 season.
