Phil Foden opened the scoring for England in a 3-1 friendly victory over Scotland at Hampden Park on Tuesday.

In a match to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the first ever football game between the two nations, it was Foden who broke the deadlock for the away side in the 33rd minute.

Our man got the decisive touch on a dangerous drilled Kyle Walker cross to deflect the ball beyond former City goalkeeper Angus Gunn in the Scotland goal.

The 23-year-old was heavily involved in England’s second too, whipping a dangerous ball in from the left that was only half cleared before Jude Bellingham swept home.

Walker and Foden were joined in the England side by fellow City man Kalvin Phillips, who partnered Declan Rice at the base of the midfield.

A Harry Maguire own goal midway through the second half gave Scotland’s players hope and saw the Hampden Park crowd come to life.

With 20 minutes remaining, England boss Southgate elected to substitute Foden for Arsenal’s Bukayo Saka.

The result was all but sealed in the 80th minute when Harry Kane finished after being set through by Bellingham.

Walker and Phillips remained on the pitch until the final whistle as England recorded their 600th win of all-time.

In the October international break, they will play Australia in a friendly before hosting Italy in a EURO 2024 qualifier.

Our trio will now return to Manchester to prepare for City’s Premier League trip to West Ham United on Saturday 16 September.
