The two clubs have played each other four times, with City winning on each occasion, and will face off again in the UEFA Super Cup this Wednesday.
The match, between the Champions League and Europa League victors of the previous season, will take place at 20:00 (UK) at the Karaiskakis Stadium in Athens.

While City have had the upper hands in previous contests, the sides have been willing to trade players on several occasions, with some notable men featuring for both.
Here we’ll take a look at the most prominent of those…
Jesus Navas
An icon in Andalusia, Navas started his career as super speedy right winger in Sevilla’s academy before progressing to the first team in 2003.
That’s where he spent a full decade before making the switch to Manuel Pellegrini’s City.
In four seasons at the Etihad, he played 183 times and scored eight goals as we won one Premier League and two League Cups.
He returned home in August 2017, where he has since become a right-back and the Club’s captain. Now 37, Navas was named the Europa League Player of the Season in 2022/23 as his boyhood club won the tournament for the seventh time.
Navas’ status at Sevilla is perhaps best demonstrated through the renaming of the club’s academy stadium to Estadio Jesus Navas in 2018.
Fernando
The other former City player that’s part of Sevilla’s current squad is the Brazilian defensive midfielder.
He moved to the Etihad from Porto in 2014 and played 102 times in his three campaigns in Manchester.
That’s when he left for Galatasaray, where he spent two years before moving to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Now entering his fifth campaign in the south of Spain, the 36-year-old has enjoyed perhaps the best period of his career at Sevilla.
Alvaro Negredo
Negredo arrived at Sevilla six years on from his maiden campaign in senior football, but it was there where he really became a force to be reckoned with.
He scored 70 goals in four seasons for Sevilla before moving to Manchester along with Navas in 2013.
The No.9 started spectacularly for City in our second Premier League winning season before tailing off in the final months of the campaign.
He left after just one year but what a mark he made. In the end, he had 23 goals from 49 appearances as well as winners medals in the Premier League and League Cup.
Samir Nasri
A key creative force in our 2011/12 and 2013/14 Premier League titles, Nasri played 176 times for City and scored 27 times, including several pivotal strikes.
The French attacking midfielder had seen his playing time restricted in his fifth season and so decided to go on loan to Sevilla in 2016/17.
There he played 23 times in his one season at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.
Stevan Jovetic
Jovetic was another player involved in the 2013 influx of talent at the Etihad Stadium.
Injuries meant he never quite hit the heights he had at Fiorentina before his move, but he still scored 11 goals in 44 appearances as we won the Premier League and League Cup in 2013/14.
He left for Inter in 2015, which was the club from which he joined Sevilla on loan in 2017, where he scored six goals in 21 games.
Denis Suarez
Suarez, a creative midfielder capable of gliding beyond opponents, joined City as a 17-year-old in 2011.
In two years he excelled for our EDS and made two League Cup appearances before moving to Barcelona in 2013.
His first big break in senior football came with his 2014 loan to Sevilla, playing 31 league matches and impressing enough to earn a move to Villarreal.
Nolito
The Spanish winger arrived at City in Pep Guardiola’s first summer in Manchester.
He spent just one season in Manchester, scoring six goals in 30 appearances as Guardiola refreshed his squad.
In the summer of 2017, he made his return to his homeland and signed for Sevilla, where he played 49 league games across three seasons.
Enzo Maresca
Guardiola’s assistant during our historic 2022/23 season is now manager at Leicester City.
However, in his playing days Maresca appeared more times for Sevilla than any of his other clubs.
The midfielder scored 13 goals in 96 games between 2005 and 2009 for Los Nervionenses.
Karim Rekik
Dutch centre-back Rekik joined City from Feyenoord and became the youngest overseas player to appear in a senior game for the Club, just 16 years and 294 days old on 21 September 2011.
He made just two further appearances for City before loans to Portsmouth, Blackburn Rovers and then most notably PSV Eindhoven.
Leaving City in 2015, he eventually arrived at Sevilla in 2020. There he played 45 league games across three seasons.
Marcos Lopes
Known as ‘Rony’, Lopes joined City from Portuguese giants Benfica as a 15-year-old in 2011.
He scored on his debut as City beat Watford 3-0 in the FA Cup third round in January 2013. Four more appearances followed before a loan with Lille and eventual transfer to Monaco in 2015.
He landed at Sevilla in 2019 but a series of loans with Nice, Olympiacos and Troyes meant he never settled in Spain before moving permanently to Braga.
