The Blues left Old Trafford still reeling from the VAR interpretation of United’s opening goal that had seemed certain to be disallowed for offside.
However former crowd idol Goater, talking on the post-match section of Matchday Live, believes City won’t dwell on the disappointment but use it as a platform for the coming weeks and months.
“I can imagine Pep being in the dressing room at Old Trafford after the game saying something along the lines of, ‘look, things are against us right now, but only we can fix this by going on a long winning run’ - and that’s what I think could happen, so we push Arsenal all the way,” said Goater.
“I can see City going on one of those win streaks of 15 or 18 games because a moment like the VAR Marcus Rashford opening goal can spark something like that.
“I think Pep will look back and say that we don’t lose that game without that VAR decision because without that first goal, I don’t believe they get their second.
“The lads performed well against United and that’s what they will take into the next game against Spurs.
“There are times when you play and lose and you think ‘oh well...’, but when you have played well, and still lost, you go into the next game confident and positive, and our players will be that way - they will know and want to put things right.
“If we go ahead against Spurs on Thursday, because it is a big game against a good side, getting a second is vital because if we had scored again against United when we were 1-0 up, that would have been game over and they would have been dead and buried.
“It’s going to be a big game against Spurs, the Etihad will be rocking, and everyone will be up for it. I’m really looking forward to it.”
