Phil Foden scored one and assisted another to help City secure a 4-0 UEFA Champions League league phase victory away to Slovan Bratislava.

Pep Guardiola‘s men took the lead after the just eight minutes, with Ilkay Gundogan‘s powerful drive from 18 yards deflecting off a defender and into the net, the midfielder’s first goal since returning to the Club this summer.

Seven minutes later, the lead was doubled through a superb curling effort from Foden after fine work on the flank by the lively Jeremy Doku.

The lead could have been extended further before the interval, but Doku, Foden and Gundogan all saw their efforts come back off the woodwork.

Shortly before the hour mark, the third goal came via the right boot of Erling Haaland, who raced through on goal from an accurate Rico Lewis pass, before rounding the goalkeeper and tapping into an empty net.

The Norweigan’s cool finish takes his career tally in the Champions League to a remarkable 42 goals in 41 appearances.

James McAtee added our fourth and his first goal for the Club with just under 15 minutes left to play, latching onto Foden’s clever dinked pass to smash into the net.

McAtee came closed to doubling his tally but was denied by a smart save from Dominik Takac, who also saved expertly from Gundogan and John Stones in the closing stages, as we remained in control to secure our first victory of the competition’s new league phase.
