The forward’s first-time lob from 35 yards found the net after Stuart Armstrong had intercepted possession on the half-way line just after the 15-minute mark to earn Southampton a 1-0 win.
But although the defeat will leave a bitter taste in the mouth, Pep Guardiola’s men unquestionably gave their all, and will feel hard done by not to have come away with at least a point.

The early setback did not deter us, with City creating a flurry of chances before the 30-minute mark; notably when Alex McCarthy was forced into making quickfire saves from Raheem Sterling and David Silva after Fernandinho’s low effort had struck the post.
And the onslaught continued after the break, with McCarthy getting down well to deny Gabriel Jesus from heading home the equaliser after Aymeric Laporte’s effort had deflected up into the air.

Our intensity continued at a lightning pace and, but for a timely Jack Stephens block, Bernardo Silva would surely have brought us level with a side-footed effort just after the hour mark.
Kevin De Bruyne and Phil Foden were brought on for the final 30 to try and conjure some magic, but the Southampton rear-guard held firm and saw out the win.
