The German goalkeeper arrived in Manchester this summer after his contract at Arminia Bielefeld expired.
Meeting the media after a special event at the Etihad Stadium to introduce the Club’s new players to the fans, Ortega Moreno spoke of his admiration of City’s style of play.
The 29-year-old is confident he has the ability with his feet to pass out from the back, as is required of City’s goalkeepers.
“I am looking forward to playing this style of football. I have the quality to open the game from my position.
“To keep calm and play good balls and save the shots. This style is the best in the world because it gives you confidence.
“My old club is not a big club in Germany so this year is a really big chance for me to play in one of the best clubs in the world.”
Ederson has been the undisputed number one at the Club in recent seasons, and Ortega Moreno acknowledges that it will be difficult to take that role from the Brazilian.
“Man City is a big club so they need players on the top level in every position,” he said.
“I will try to push Ederson. I want to stay between the sticks not on the bench.”
City are Ortega Moreno’s first club outside of Germany, having previously represented 1860 Munich between two spells at Arminia Bielefeld.
Our new man believes that presents an exciting opportunity for both him and his teammates.
“It’s the first time I have a goalkeeping coach and goalkeepers from a different country. I think I can learn from every culture and country and the other guys from me.
“Txiki told me that for goalkeepers, Xabi [Mancisidor, Goalkeeping Coach] is the chief. When he has an idea, they believe him and trust him.”
