Trevor Sinclair believes Bernardo Silva is a complete footballer.

Bernardo has been one of Manchester City’s star performers in the opening months of the season, recapturing his superb form of 2018-19, when he was named in the PFA Team of the Year and won the Club’s Player of the Season award.

With his tireless work rate and creativity, the Portugal international has been the driving force in the City midfield over recent weeks, with Pep Guardiola recently declaring the 27-year-old ‘undroppable’.

Former City man Sinclair thinks the playmaker has all the attributes you want in a player, and has been particularly impressed with how his superlative displays have helped raise the performances of his team-mates.

“He’s got everything,” he said on the latest edition of Matchday Live.

“His engine is second to none. His balance and energy mean you can’t pin him down. He’s running games and he is raising the games of his team-mates - that’s a sign of a great player.

“He’s so unselfish too. He’s not bothered about taking the glory because he knows if he helps the team that will come anywhere.

“He looks like he has a fantastic relationship with every player in the squad and that is worth the weight in gold.

“He’s got such a competitive edge. He wants to win and he’s a special player, a very special player.”

Cole Palmer is another player who has caught Sinclair’s eye.

The Academy graduate is enjoying a breakout season, netting his first goal for the Club and producing the sort of performances which suggest he is increasingly at home in the first team environment.

Palmer has made eight senior appearances, but his development has been carefully managed, and he has continued to play for the Elite Development Squad (EDS) on occasion.

A former-attacking midfielder himself, Sinclair has been impressed with the 19-year-old’s obvious ability and feels the way he has taken everything in his stride proves he’s got the right character.

“We all know he’s a good player,” he added.

“But for me, he’s shown that he’s got the right mentality.

“He’s not spitting his dummy out saying why am I still playing with the EDS, he’s just getting on with it.”
