Manchester City Director of Football Txiki Begiristain says City’s Champions League quarter-final clash with Atletico Madrid is a fascinating prospect.

Pep Guardiola’s side will face the Spanish outfit in April for the chance to lock horns with Chelsea or Real Madrid in the final four.

Reflecting on the last eight draw, Begiristain says that the clash of two varying but entertaining playing styles will make for an intriguing contest.

“It’s going to be a difficult one,” he said. “They are two different styles – totally different – but with the same targets: to win.

“They are good at defending, good at staying there and they have the quality in the counter-attack to score goals.

“We are really different. It’s true that we also have the right balance – good in defence, defending well and not conceding many chances and goals, and creating good football but there are different styles.

“It’s going to be tough.”

With City challenging for three trophies in the ‘business end’ of the campaign, Begiristain added it is a very exciting time for the Club with Guardiola’s men on target for another historic campaign.

“The expectations are to compete,” he continued. “For the FA Cup, the league and the Champions League.

“We want to be there and we are now where we have to be.

“You need luck, players fit… everything to get trophies – but we are on the right path to get them.”

Ticket and hospitality details for City’s quarter-final tie will be released in due course.
