Director of Football Txiki Begiristain has heaped praise on Eric Garcia.

The young defender returned to the starting lineup this evening for the game against Liverpool, just two weeks since spending the night in hospital after a collision with Ederson during our 3-0 win over Arsenal.

Speaking at half-time with City 3-0 ahead against Liverpool, Begiristain, clearly impressed with Garcia’s return to action, said he believes the Spaniard is maturing into a fine player.

“Eric is a very intelligent boy - more than a boy,” He said. “He is a good character, a solid leader.

“He has been great and playing on the left side against a striker with so much pace like Mane, he has done very well.”

Begiristain was also impressed with Phil Foden, who scored his fourth goal since the resumption of Premier League football to make it 3-0 on the stroke of half-time.

It was a superb goal – finishing off a fine move that saw the youngster play a brilliant one-two with Kevin De Bruyne in the build up.

It topped off a classy all-round first-half performance from Foden – and Begiristain couldn’t hide his excitement.

“Phil’s performance is top,” he said. “You can see the difficulty against a top team. It means he is already very mature.

“He has scored four goals since lockdown. It is very important for a midfielder.”
