Ilkay Gundogan netted a brace as City coasted to the top of the Premier League with a ruthless 5-0 victory over West Bromwich Albion.

Pep Guardiola‘s men began in confident fashion and immediately got on the front foot, as Phil Foden‘s deflected drive was touched onto the post spectacularly by Sam Johnstone.

But, City did not need to wait long for the opener, as Joao Cancelo found Gundogan who accurately fired into the corner in the sixth minute.

Cancelo turned from provider to scorer in the 22nd minute, spectacularly finding the top corner from the edge of the box from Bernardo Silva’s cut-back, marking the full-back’s first-ever Premier League goal.

Eight minutes later, Gundogan was celebrating his seventh Premier League goal of the season and our third of the evening, capitalising on a defensive mix-up for the hosts and calmly slotting into the bottom corner.

Guardiola‘s men were in irresistible form and added a fourth shortly before the break through Riyad Mahrez, who cut in on his left foot and arrowed a trademark finish into the far corner.

There was no sign of City slowing down in the second period and three minutes before the hour mark, Raheem Sterling got his name on the scoresheet, tapping into an empty net from an accurate Mahrez cross to take his league tally to six this season.

Speaking of six, Rodri almost added the sixth of the night, but his long-range effort skimmed the crossbar and flew over.

City saw the game out professionally to move to the top of the league table - scintillating stuff!
