Erling Haaland‘s second on the night not only sealed the three points that ensured qualification to the knockouts for the 11th successive season, it was a milestone goal.
It took us just 119 matches in the competition to reach the figure, the fastest it’s ever been done by any of the 12 sides who have got there.
The record was previously held by Paris Saint-Germain, who took 127 games to hit 250.
City set unbeaten record in Europe
The victory also marked an English club record 18 matches unbeaten in Europe and it was our 100th win in major European competitions.
Our unbeaten run stretches throughout last season’s road to glory in Istanbul and includes 17 Champions League games and the UEFA Super Cup victory in August.
As far as the match itself went, it was a fairly straightforward night for Pep Guardiola‘s side. We had more than 70% possession against Young Boys, completing a whopping 663 passes.
480 of those were in the Swiss side’s half, highlighting how much of the game we played high up the pitch.
In total we had 27 shots, while our opponents did not have a single effort on goal. 10 of our efforts were on target, creating an xG of 3.5.
Ederson’s 50th win
Ederson became the fastest of the eight goalkeepers to win 50 games in the Champions League with this victory.
The Brazilian has won 46 matches in the competition with City and a further four with Benfica before he moved to Manchester.
In total it has taken him 75 matches to win 50 games, eclipsing the previous record shared by Manuel Neuer and Victor Valdes after 82 games.
This was one of the easiest of his 30 Champions League clean sheets to date, as he wasn’t forced into a single save.
The Brazilian did complete all 32 of his passes on the evening, the 32nd time he’s ended a game with 100% passing accuracy for City.
Only three goalkeepers on record (since 2003-04) have attempted more passes in a Champions League game while completing all of them (one of those was Ederson against Feyenoord in September 2017 – 33/33).
Foden’s fine form
Phil Foden has been involved in 19 goals across his last 21 starts for City at the Etihad (12 goals, 7 assists), scoring (2) or assisting (3) in five of his last six home starts.

Erling Haaland‘s four goals in four games means he is joint second in terms of the competition’s top scorers this season. Atletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata has five, while Antoine Griezmann and FC Porto’s Evanilson are also on four.
Rico Lewis is one of many players across the competition on two assists. Only PSG’s Warren Zaire-Emery has more, with three.
