Erling Haaland netted his first goals of the 2023/24 Champions League campaign, inspiring City to a 3-1 Group G victory over Young Boys at Wankdorf Stadium.

Pep Guardiola‘s men made a bright start in Switzerland, coming close twice in the early exchanges through Rodrigo and Matheus Nunes, but both narrowly missed the target from inside the 18-yard box.

Jeremy Doku was next to come close to the opener, but his left-footed effort was parried to safety by Anthony Racioppi from 12 yards.

The attacking barrage continued, with Nunes again inches away from breaking the deadlock, seeing his effort cleared off the line, before Doku again stung the palms of Racioppi.

Three minutes after the interval, Akanji struck the opener, reacting quickest to prod in from close-range after a stunning Racioppi save from a Ruben Dias header.

The hosts hit back four minutes later, levelling through a lobbed finish from Meschack Elia.

Haaland struck us back ahead after 67 minutes from the penalty spot, after Rodrigo was fouled inside the box by Mohamed Ali Camara.

With just under 15 minutes remaining, Julian Alvarez thought he added a third, but after a VAR review, the goal was chalked off for a handball by Jack Grealish in the build up.

Haaland did add a third, curling expertly into the top corner to secure the points.

The win keeps us top of Group G, with the maximum nine points from three matches.
