Alex Greenwood has become the latest City player to make her 100th appearance for the Club.

The defender started for Gareth Taylor’s side as we earned a 1-1 against Chelsea.

It ultimately proved a frustrating afternoon for the defender, who was sent off 38 minutes into the contest for a second bookable offence, much to the bemusement of her City team-mates.

However, the hosts held on at the Joie Stadium to earn a share of the spoils.

Embarking on her fourth full season at the Club since joining from Olympique Lyonnais in 2020, Greenwood’s experience, composure and technical excellence have been essential to City’s success in recent years.

After making 31 appearances from centre-half and left-back in her debut campaign, the England international was an ever-present in 2021/22, when she stepped up to the plate to help the team through an unprecedented injury crisis.

Those performances earned her a spot in the PFA WSL Team of the Year, her second inclusion at the time having also been part of the XI in 2016.

That summer, she was part of the England squad to claim a historic Euro 2022 title, and Greenwood continued to shine on her return to City.

Extending her contract at the Club until 2026 in December of last year, the defender was once again a key figure for Gareth Taylor’s side, earning her a spot in the Team of the Year for a second successive campaign.

Greenwood is the 15th City player to reach a century of appearances for our Women’s team and the fifth among the current squad, alongside Steph Houghton, Demi Stokes, Ellie Roebuck and Lauren Hemp.

Congratulations to Alex on her latest career milestone!
