Alex Greenwood believes Manchester City will thrive under the pressure of what promises to be a thrilling end to the 2021/22 campaign.

Gareth Taylor’s side booked our place in the FA Cup final with a 4-1 win over West Ham in our most recent outing, setting up a Wembley showpiece with Chelsea on Saturday 15 May.

But before then, City are locked in a thrilling two-way battle with Manchester United to secure the final Champions League qualification spot in the FA Women’s Super League.

Next up for City is a home encounter with Leicester on Sunday 24 April, with kick-off scheduled for 14:00 (UK) and the match available to watch live on CITY+.

Everything points towards a captivating finale, with each match between now and the end of the season taking on an extra weight of significance.

However, Greenwood is confident that she and her teammates will grab the opportunity with both hands.

“I love this time of year because it’s exciting, the pressure is on,” she explained.

“I think that’s when this team steps up every time when it seems to get to that point.

“We’re excited, we’ve booked ourselves in an FA Cup final which is fantastic for us and the Club, but there’s some really important games before then which could determine the end of the season.

“We just concentrate on ourselves. We focus on trying to winning our games and hopefully everything else takes care of itself.”

A mainstay at the heart of defence, Greenwood has been one of City’s most consistent performers across the entire campaign.

The England international has featured in all 33 matches so far and has been described by several other members of Gareth Taylor’s squad as one of the team’s unsung heroes.

But while Greenwood appreciates the plaudits from her teammates, she insists her focus remains on maintaining her current performance levels.

She reflected: “That’s obviously really nice to hear your teammates speak about you like that, but I just try to take it game by game.

“I’m really enjoying my football this season and have done since I’ve been here. I’m really happy.

“It’s a really nice place to play and I’m enjoying the way we play football.”
