Alex Greenwood says City’s collective hunger to win silverware was a defining factor in her decision to join the Club.

The England Lionesses international officially joined the Club from French giants Lyon earlier this week, signing a three-year deal just a day after Lucy Bronze also made the switch from France to Manchester.

And in explaining the factors behind leaving the newly crowned European champions to move to City, the full-back said the Club’s desire for sustained success mirrored her own personal ambitions.

“There were a number of reasons (about joining City). When I had conversations with my agent, my options were to stay where I was and continue or to come home and when I knew Cty were interested it was easy for me,” Greenwood revealed.

“Their ambition matches mine. I was excited by the new manager, their plans for the future and what they saw in me. It felt right. It was an easy decision.

“There is a hunger here (to win trophies).

“A football club like this, we have to be comfortable talking about winning titles... why not? If you can’t say it, it won’t happen. We are capable of doing those things.

“I can’t wait. I’ve been here for the last week and it’s been everything I expected - a massively ambitious club. So it was a no-brainer when it came to joining.”

Greenwood has moved to City after a hugely successful 12 months in France.

As well as being part of the Lyon side that lifted the Champions League for a fifth straight year, she also helped the French outfit to win to two domestic cups as well as the Division 1 Féminine title.

And she believes that she is moving to City as both a better player and a more rounded individual.

“The one year was probably the best of my football career, in terms of developing as a person as well as a player,” Greenwood admitted.

“I think I am (a better player). I went with what I thought was experience and maturity, but I’ve left with more.

“They are a fantastic group of people and their desire to win is something I’ve never experienced before. I’ve took that and I want to bring it here.

“I trained every day with the best players - that can only improve you. We won important trophies and the UCL. I loved every minute of it.

“It’s an addictive feeling. The feeling I had when we won the Champions League I can’t put into words. You want to do it again and again and that is why I came here. If we can do it, it will be unbelievable for me and the club.”

Greenwood has extensive experience of the WSL having played – uniquely – for Everton, Liverpool and most notably Manchester United amongst others.

However, she says the fact she played for our cross-city rivals wasn’t an issue when it came to opting to join City.

“Did I ask a question about coming? No,” Greenwood stressed.

“I am aware of the situation - I’m not stupid. But this about my ambition as a footballer and my ambition matched this club’s. I got a taste of winning at Lyon.

“I gave 100 per cent for United and no one can take that away from me - but I’m at City now and I can’t wait to get started.”
